RAGE:MP Shutdown by Take-Two
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has formally requested that the GTA V modding platform RAGE:MP cease operations. The platform’s developers announced the impending shutdown via a forum post, stating that Rockstar and Take-Two have designated FiveM as the only authorized platform for GTA V multiplayer modding, as defined in their Platform License Agreement.
RAGE:MP server owners have been asked to wind down their operations and migrate to FiveM before an official cutoff date of August 31, 2026. After that deadline, the platform will no longer be supported. The move consolidates control over the GTA Online modding ecosystem under Rockstar’s recently acquired FiveM infrastructure.
A Strained History
Rockstar and Take-Two’s relationship with the modding community has been turbulent. In 2015, the companies sparked backlash when they suggested a ban on all GTA V modifications, though they later clarified that single-player modding was permitted. Later that same year, Rockstar attempted to shut down FiveM for hosting an unauthorized alternate multiplayer service that it claimed facilitated piracy. Tensions eased in August 2023 when Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, following a surge in the GTA roleplay community. That acquisition cemented FiveM as the official modding platform and led to speculation that Rockstar aims to better integrate community servers into future titles.
